Words, Wine and Women hosted their third BLAB of 2016 on Tuesday, February 16 at 6pm PST.
Get ready for your weekly dose of trending gossip. Tara and Marybeth keep it real with discussions about Kayne West and Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian and keeping her man in check, the 2016 Grammy awards, Sports Illustrated, and the ladies also pay homage to the late “Nasty Girl” Denise “Vanity” Matthews. Check out the Blab recap and summary below:
2016 Grammy Awards: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
If you didn’t watch the 2016 Grammy Awards Show this year you certainly missed a lot! Tara and Marybeth give you some of the highlights from the show. First they addressed the elephant in the room…Kayne West and Taylor Swift. As you’re probably aware of his on again off again feud with Taylor Swift, the ladies talk about how OLD and PLAYED OUT Kayne’s antics really are. He started this “beef” with a 17 year old pop singer and seems adamant about bringing her down. Ye’s latest song which seems to be geared towards Swift talks about “having sex with her” and “how he made her famous”… Really? Well, Taylor did not sit idly by, she address the matter with such poise and class that the ladies of Words, Wine and Women had to give her props.
But what the ladies really want to know is… Where in the world is Kim Kardashian in all of this? As her husband makes songs about having sex with and taking claim to another woman’s celebrity status, what in the world is going through her mind? Does she talk to her man about being a little over the top with his antics, or is she so self-absorbed (much like her man) that it doesn’t faze her?
Ladies, we want to know, has Kayne gone too far? If you were his wife would you say something?
Size Zero Move Over!
Not wanting to give Kanye and Kim all the limelight (as if they don’t have enough) the ladies switched the direction of the Grammy talk to discuss the excitement in the representation of “real women” at the awards show. Not to exclude anyone, but Tara and Marybeth were simply happy that there was a better representation of curvaceous women in the crowd that aren’t ashamed (or here for the bull). Wouldn’t you agree? Headliners like Adele hit the stage and tore it down and pretty much told the naysayers to have several seats with their claims of her being “off pitch”! Other amazing “real women” of the night were Megan Trainor who won Best New Artist, and Brittany Howard of the Alabama Shakers.
The ladies also discussed the amazing tribute performances that night. Lady Gaga slayed her tribute to David Bowie. Has anyone noticed how much Lady Gaga has evolved in her sense of style and music, but doesn’t seem to be getting the same attention? What’s up with that? The other amazing tribute of the night was the BB King Tribute performance by the ever awesome Bonnie Raitt and Chris Stapleton. That just leaves out one VIP…. Natalie Cole.
Given her contribution to the music world and her linage, why wasn’t there a tribute for her?
Congratulations Sports Illustrated! Thanks for Finally Getting it!
Well it’s about darn time! Sports Illustrated is giving us life with the new triple cover. Fab women MMA fighter Ronda Rousey, Lane Bryant model Ashley Graham, and fashion model Hailey Clauson served us body and everything else on the front page. Tara and Marybeth talk about how historical this moment really is and the impact it can have on women and their body image. Unfortunately, you’re always going to have your haters. Tara discusses that there were some people that were against the idea of having a variation of body types on the front page, while the men are screaming, “give us more”! Well the ladies loved every bit of it and hope that this newfound body appreciation can be passed on to other industries – including fashion where women with more than an itty bitty waist line can have a hard time finding clothes to show off what their momma’s gave them.
Was this cover iconic for you? Which cover was your favorite?
RIP Denise “Vanity” Matthews
The ladies close out the show by acknowledging an awesome woman who recently passed – Ms. Denise “Vanity” Matthews. For those of you who don’t know, she is the unapologetic “Nasty Girl” of the 80’s. The ladies speak on her groundbreaking music for that era where women were expected to be meek and mild. Denise’s out of the box attitude towards sexuality as a woman was awesome. Though she struggled a bit with addiction in the past, she went on to turn her life over to Christ. The ladies discussed how great this message is for women today. It shows that you can be proud of who you are at every stage in your life.
