BLAB #4 – 2015 Wrap Up Blab
Tara, Beth, Jacque and Shannon of Words, Wine and Women hosted their weekly BLAB on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 6pm PST. For a special, year-end blab session, the ladies wanted to keep this discussion light, fun and personal. The 2015 Wrap Up Blab was all about “our favorite things of 2015.” Watch the replay and read a quick summary of the highlights below:
What was your favorite movie of 2015?
To start off the conversation, the ladies began with their favorite movie of 2015. Shannon loved Trainwreck with Amy Schumer (girl power!), Tara was a big fan of The Big Short with Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Jacque was all about this year’s anticipated Star Wars The Force Awakens. Beth couldn’t quite pin-point a movie she really enjoyed this year, but she certainly does not recommend 50 Shades Of Grey, which Shannon, certified Sex Therapist of Words, Wine and Women, also agreed, was “actually the worst movie ever.” Beasts of No Nation (on Netflix), and Joy, and were on our list of movies to see next.
Have you seen any of these movies? What where your favorite films in 2015?
What was your favorite TV show of 2015?
Next, the ladies moved on to their favorite (and most binge-watched) television shows of the year. The TV shows didn’t have to be newly released this year, so the ladies shared which series’s they loved the most. Beth loves Game of Thrones and after finishing Girls, she has that on her list of favorites too. Shannon was a huge fan of this past season of American Horror Story while Jacque binged watched The Knick on Cinemax. Crowd favorites included the House of Cards, Breaking Bad, American Horror Story and Mad Men.
What was your favorite Song/Album of 2015?
As most of us can guess, Adele’s “Hello” single was a huge favorite in 2015. Aside from Adele, Beth and Tara agreed that 2015 was the year of Uptown Funk and admitted to jamming out to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars on multiple occasions. Jacque is playing Sia’s latest singles (new album out January 29th, 2016!) and Shannon shared that she’s had Miguel’s ‘Wildheart’ Album on repeat since it’s release this summer. The song Tara felt encapsulated 2015 in a way no other song could, was Drake’s “Hotline Bling” — but really, who could argue with those dance moves??
Who was your favorite “intriguing person” of 2015?
Next, the ladies shifted the topic a little and discussed the people who inspired them the most in 2015. Beth choice was Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai after watching the intimate documentary, He Named Me Malala. Malala, who was wounded by Taliban gunmen after they opened fire on her and her friends’ school bus in Pakistan’s Swat Valley, had been targeted for speaking out on behalf of girls’ education, is a remarkable and inspiring modern day hero. Beth said that every kid (boys and girls) should watch this documentary.
Tara was deeply inspired by Sandra Bullock this year after adopting her second child, a three-and-a-half-year-old from Louisiana, named Laila (pronounced “Lila”) who had previously been in foster care. Bullock continues to exemplify the modern family in America with a blended and diverse and loving outlook.
What was the most memorable news story in 2015 for you?
The pill for low libido or the female desire drug was Shannon’s top story of 2015. Could a pill (like viagra for men) help women boost their sex drive? After going on sale in mid October 2015, Flibanserin (Addyi) didn’t succeed as the FDA had planned and the drug basically flopped. Coming from a sex clinician, this made total sense. A pill can’t help achieve real-life experiences or desire and there are other (much more viable) options aside from taking a pill to achieve these results.
What was the greatest moment for you in 2015 AND what do you look forward to in 2016?
This year, Shannon celebrated her 2nd marriage anniversary and felt very proud to ring in another year with her husband while embracing the “evolution of marriage.” There is no manual on how to be a wife or a husband and marriage is a big deal (especially the first two years) so this was an especially big moment for her in 2015. In 2016, Shannon’s plans are to focus more on her health and herself, and that means actually taking a break every once in a while!
Finally, Tara shared that Words, Wine and Women, a dream she once had over 7 years ago, is now is one of her biggest achievements this year. As she has generated more attention and interest in our community and is excited for what 2016 has in store, she also admitted that during the process, she had completely neglected herself! In 2016 Tara is making a promise to treat herself while instilling personal boundaries and standards day-to-day, like getting more sleep, eating right, working out, balancing work-life, living with intent, and staying positive and focused.
